Website IP lookup FAQ
How do I find the IP address of a website?
Enter a website address in the field above and select Get site info. The tool resolves the domain through DNS and shows an IPv4 address with its available country, city, coordinates and time zone. The result reflects the lookup from our server.
Why can a website have more than one IP address?
A domain can have several DNS records for load balancing, redundancy or regional traffic routing. A records contain IPv4 addresses, while AAAA records contain IPv6 addresses. This tool returns one IPv4 address; it is not a complete list of a domain's DNS records.
Does the location show where the website is hosted?
IP geolocation estimates the location associated with an address. A website using a CDN, reverse proxy or security service may show that provider's location instead of its origin server. City names and coordinates can be approximate or outdated; they do not identify a person's exact address.
Why does a lookup still show the old IP after a DNS change?
DNS resolvers cache records for a period set by their time to live (TTL). Different resolvers can therefore return different answers while a change takes effect. Check the authoritative DNS records and allow the previous TTL to expire before assuming a change has failed.
Why does opening the IP address not show the website?
Many websites share an IP address. The server uses the requested hostname to select the right site, and HTTPS certificates are issued for specific names. Opening the numeric address alone may show a default page or a certificate warning even when the website works normally.
Why is my own IP address different from the website's IP?
Your IP is the public address used by your connection; a website's IP belongs to the server or network handling its traffic. A VPN or proxy can change the public address and approximate location shown for your connection. Your local router or device may also have a separate private address.
Can an IP lookup tell me who owns a domain?
An IP address identifies a network endpoint, not necessarily the domain owner. For registration details, registrar information and nameservers, use Icey's WhoIs lookup. Some registration information is withheld for privacy.
Are website lookups saved?
Successful domain lookups are saved on our server and the latest 50 are shown in the public history above. Entries include the domain, IP address and available location information. Do not submit confidential addresses. Read the privacy policy for more information.
